For women and girls the world over, ladies suspenders are synonymous with style and eroticism. Suspenders demarcate the border between clothing and underwear, the exposure of suspenders beneath a skirt indicate the transition from dressed to undressing, and of course this is why they are considered as being so erotic, and probably why most men can’t help themselves at the site of suspenders!
Interestingly it appears that not all of us girls are fans of ladies suspenders! Personally I love them although I wouldn’t want to have to wear them every day as they can often be a little uncomfortable, but for special events or special occasions they are superb. I think in England what we call suspenders, or ladies suspender anyway, in the US they tend to refer to as knee high stockings and garters. There is also a fair proportion of women who tend to think that ladies suspenders, or garters, are something that were traditionally worn by the older generation.
It is interesting though that being of a younger generation and having been exposed to stockings and ladies suspenders through erotica and such like that it had never occurred to me they were NOT considered as sexy underwear.
There is no doubt though that the ladies suspenders and suspender belts have evolved considerably over the years since the elder generation were wearing them on a daily basis, from such era’s as the 1940’s and 50’s up to today with the new fashions for next year just starting to appear now. The six and eight strap suspender belts appear to be more and more popular to have almost become the norm compared to the two strap versions of yesteryear.
Sizes now also include plus sizes for ladies suspenders because thankfully you no longer have to be a size zero to be considered attractive and indeed there is a lot of research that suggests that gradually us rounder girls are starting to affect the opinions of what is a man’s ideal woman by being more confident with our curves and bearing our midriffs’ even if we don’t have a flat stomach. Go girls!
I particularly enjoy seeing the younger generation showing off their bodies and being confident about having curves and bumps in what might have traditionally been considered all the ‘wrong’ places, but no more, I think the campaigns such as the real women campaign and campaign for natural beauty have helped this change in stereotyping to come about somewhat and I for one applaud it. I mean, when did you last see a perfectly sized man?!
